Dr Sena Cucumak is a ROSETTA postdoctoral fellow with University College Cork and is undertaking her fellowship under the supervision of Prof Luigina Ciolfi.
Sena holds a BSc in Industrial Design and an MSc in Product Design from Sapienza University of Rome and received her PhD in Design, Technology and Society from Koç University in 2025.
Her PhD research explored opportunities for designers to broaden their approach to designing justice-oriented entanglements for multispecies interactions by materialising theoretical methods and approaches through designerly ways of knowing.
Sena’s ROSETTA project, “POTIMUS: Plurality of Time in Museum Technologies to Deconstruct Human-Centred Heritage Narratives” examines how technological interventions centred around the plurality of time can help rethink museum narratives beyond linear and anthropocentric perspectives. Time is frequently conceptualised as a linear, standardised, and progressive structure; consequently, cultural heritage is also constructed in line with this dominant concepts of time. Current museum technologies risk reinforcing dominant and linear voices; therefore, her project contributes to ongoing discussions on polyvocality within Critical Cultural Heritage and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
By developing interaction models and temporality prototypes inspired by nature’s alternative rhythms, her research aims to shift the focus from linear progress to slower, sensory, and reflective engagement and ecological awareness in interactive heritage systems.
