The ROSETTA Induction 2026 took place on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, bringing together our newly recruited postdoctoral researchers for a programme of presentations and discussion focused on research communication, ethical integrity, funding opportunities, and career development.

The induction provided an opportunity for participants to connect with colleagues, gain insights into the wider research environment, and explore the resources and support available throughout their research careers.

The programme featured contributions from colleagues across the College of Business, Public Policy & Law and the Research Development Centre, covering four key areas.

Communication & Impact

The Communications Officer in the College of Business, Public Policy & Law, introduced participants to the importance of effective research communication and demonstrating research impact. The session highlighted the value of communicating research clearly to different audiences and considering how research findings can reach beyond academic communities. Participants were encouraged to think strategically about communicating their work and making its relevance and impact accessible to wider audiences.

Research Ethical Integrity – Emerging Ethics

Our Ethics Advisor in the College of Business, Public Policy & Law, explored the evolving ethical landscape of research. The session, Research Ethical Integrity – Emerging Ethics, encouraged participants to consider how emerging technologies, new methodologies and changing research practices can create new ethical questions. The presentation emphasised the importance of maintaining ethical integrity throughout the research process and engaging proactively with ethical considerations as research develops.

Navigating Funding Opportunities Across the Research Lifecycle

The Head of Strategic Research Awards Life Cycle, provided an overview of funding opportunities and the research funding landscape. The session focused on navigating funding opportunities across the research lifecycle, helping researchers to understand the importance of planning ahead and identifying appropriate funding opportunities at different stages of their careers and research projects. Participants gained insights into the strategic approach required to develop funding applications and build sustainable research programmes.

Career & Professional Development

The final session was led by the Head of the Research Development Centre, and focused on career and professional development. The session highlighted the importance of taking a proactive approach to career planning and making use of the development opportunities and supports available to researchers. Participants were encouraged to consider their longer-term professional goals and the skills, experience and networks that can support progression throughout their research careers.

The ROSETTA Induction 2026 provided a valuable introduction to key aspects of the research fellowship while giving participants an opportunity to reflect on their own research practice and professional development. Through the programme, researchers were equipped with practical perspectives and resources to support them as they progress through the next stages of their research careers.
