ROSETTA held it’s first Summer School over a two-day event on 26th and 27th March at the University of Galway.
It was especially wonderful to welcome our ROSETTA fellows, along with participants from other Marie Curie programmes—SyMeCo, Digi+ and PREPARED.
Day 1 was both engaging and inspiring, setting a strong tone for the programme. Thanks so much to Mahya Ostovar for a hugely thought-provoking talk on developing and reflecting on your academic identity, encouraging fellows to think more deeply about their research journey and goals. We’re also very grateful to Simeon Vidolov for a highly practical session on navigating ethics applications, offering clear guidance grounded in real experience. Finally, thanks to Martina Prendergast for sharing valuable strategies on building a strong research funding portfolio. All three sessions drew on a wealth of personal experience and practical insights, giving fellows both inspiration and concrete tools to take forward.
Thanks too to Esther Tippmann, Jonathan Doh, Lorraine Morgan, Karyn Morrissey, Michael Lang and Faizan Ali for relaying their experiences and shared practical insights on navigating different journal types and positioning research for maximum impact.
Day 2 centred on the Business Summit hosted by the University of Galway’s J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics, which brought together leaders from industry, academia and policy to explore how AI is shaping the future of business.
Throughout the day, discussions focused on key themes such as responsible AI adoption, innovation in highly regulated sectors, evolving investment perspectives, and the important role of research in informing real-world decision-making. The breadth of perspectives created a rich and dynamic conversation around both the opportunities and challenges of AI.
A particularly valuable aspect of the summit was the strong engagement between students, researchers and industry leaders, fostering meaningful dialogue and opening up opportunities for collaboration. ROSETTA Researchers also showcased their work through poster sessions, creating space for direct interaction with attendees. These sessions highlighted the ROSETTA projects focused on Digital Responsibility—a key research area within the School—and encouraged thoughtful discussion around the societal and ethical dimensions of digital innovation.
