Digitalisation at Speed: Responsible Technology in an Accelerated World

On Friday, 22nd March, 2024 the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at University of Galway, in collaboration with itag & itag Skillnet, Galway Chamber and Data 2 Sustain, hosted their Regional Business Summit event as part of their Thinking Beyond event series.

During this summit we were thrilled to announce the launch of ROSETTA (Responsible Time & Tech in an Accelerated Digitised World), led by University of Galway and cofunded by
Lero, Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software, J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics and the European Commission’s Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA) scheme.

A focus on this year’s summit was ‘Digitalisation at Speed: Responsible Technology in an Accelerated World. A panel discussion with Ian Brannigan, Mary Ann Fleming, Dave Silke, Dr Anastasia Griva and Dr Kieran Conboy, chaired by Sharon Walsh, SVP Technology, Fidelity Investments & Chair, itag provided insights into responsible design, use and regulation of technology in our accelerated world. The panel challenged current assumptions around digital responsiblity and presented leading practices such as AI, analytics and cybersecurity.

Examples of leading research in this area from J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics was highlighted including the newly funded ROSETTA Research and Training Programme.

The panel explored the diverse challenges in achieving a responsible agenda from the unique perspective of small companies in the West of Ireland to the forefront of digitalisation efforts in global multinationals.
